WAKEFIELD - Merchants in Wakefield are taking steps to improve their shopping district by creating a new merchants association.

The store owners at the Wakefield Shopping District created the East 233rd and White Plains Road Merchants Association.

President of the association, Michael Felter, says the united front will help improve the area and get people to shop there.

Real estate broker Kris Ramdat says that the organization will help with cleaner streets and better lighting, which also improves safety.

The 13 merchants in the new association are offering a brochure of coupons to their stores.
