THE BRONX - First- and second-graders at Brilla College Prep learned the true meaning of Thanksgiving today.

The students were asked to help collect cans of food for a week, with a goal of reaching 5,000 cans.

Students were able to collect 7,129 cans, enough to give 700 needy families something to eat this Thanksgiving.

Students and their families donated the cans today to the pantry inside the House of Almond Tree Church.
