THE BRONX - Gears grinded and adrenaline flowed at Engineering Day at Hostos Community College. Robots built by teams of middle and high school students battled for the top spot in the engineering competition.

The fifth- through 12th-grade students put their engineering and math skills on display with the Summer Step Proyecto Access program, and used their creativity to build the best robot.

Wheels, levers, pulley systems and claws were some of the technologies created by the students.

The winner of the competition will receive a trophy at the graduation ceremony on Thursday.
