THE BRONX - Second and fourth-graders at P.S. 85 today learned about compassion from the Guardians of Rescue and Urban Animal Alliance.

Two dogs and a kitten visited the school as part of a project to teach kids about compassion and empathy.

Rescuers say there is a direct correlation between how a child treats a pet and how children treat each other.

Each child who participated in the program received a book with tips on how to care for animals.
