THE BRONX - A group of Bronx kids took an African field trip last month to help needy children.

The mission to Uganda was a collaboration between Bronx Connect for Urban Youth Alliance and New Life Outreach International Church.

Four students left their homes in the Bronx to join Councilman Fernando Cabrera and other Bronx residents at an orphanage to make bunk beds for children.

The missionary group built the beds by hand. Councilman Cabrera says the mission of the trip was to get Bronx youth to realize that there's need in other places around the world.

The New Life Outreach International Church has already planned another trip.  The group will travel to Peru with members of two out-of-state churches this summer.
