MOTT HAVEN - According to a new study by the Center for Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies, Mexicans are the city's fastest growing Latino subgroup.

In Mott Haven, area employees say about 80 percent of local stores are run by Mexicans.

The study says Mexicans make up 5.5 percent of The Bronx's population and 14 percent of New York City's Hispanic population.

Compared to other Latino groups, Mexicans have higher birth and fertility rates; experts say if these rates remain steady, Mexicans will be the city's largest Latino nationality in about two decades.
