NEW YORK - The State University of New York is making a virtual expansion.

SUNY schools, which make up the nation's largest and most comprehensive state university system, are adding new online degree programs, and enhancing academic and technical support for students who enroll.

The SUNY system has 64 campuses and currently offers more than 12,000 courses and 150 degree programs on the web. Starting this week, an additional eight online programs will be added to six schools, with more coming in September.

SUNY Maritime College, which prepares students for naval careers, is the only SUNY school in the Bronx, but the expansion will now give borough residents more degree options.
