NEW YORK - (AP) - New York transportation officials say theyhave removed 124 bus drivers and 96 buses from the road in surpriseinspections following a deadly bus crash in the Bronx a month ago.
The Department of Transportation says the 1,286 roadsideinspections are part of the crackdown ordered by Gov. Andrew CuomoMarch 17.
Meanwhile, State Police have ticketed bus drivers for more than150 moving violations.
A tour bus crashed March 12 on a highway in the Bronx, killing15 people. That investigation is continuing. The driver, OphadellWilliams, has not been charged.
The Department of Motor Vehicles says it has used new facialrecognition technology to have 31 drivers with commercial licensesarrested for allegedly using aliases to fraudulently obtainmultiple licenses, with about 50 cases being reviewed.
