THE BRONX - Retail giant Target has purchased a 7.9-acre former postal building in Throgs Neck, according to city finance documents. The building, located at the corner of Lafayette Avenue and the Hutchinson River Parkway, was purchased for $35.2 million by the parent company of Target. The deed lists the owner as Lafayette Nominee Owner LLC, with an address at Target's corporate headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn.

The retailer has not yet confirmed what it plans to do with the space. Some say they welcome a third Target store in the borough, but others worry about the impact it could have on local mom-and-pop shops and congestion.

News 12 The Bronx reached out to Target, but a spokesperson said they don't comment on new stores until a year before they open.
