THE BRONX - A taxi driver says he was assaulted in front of his Parkchester home early Saturday morning.

Mohammed Rahman, who lives on Leland Avenue, says he had just come home from a late shift as a cab driver when a passerby asked him the time.

“I told him 1 a.m., that’s it, and he punched my eyes and I flew almost 3 feet away. I had bleeding start, my nose, my mouth," said the Bengali father of four.

The attack left Rahman with a fractured eye socket and nose bones, and Rahman says it scared his children.

Rahman describes his attacker as a light-skinned male in his early 20s, wearing a baseball cap. Police currently do not have a suspect in custody.

Bengali community activists say the attack resembles other recent attacks on members of the Muslim community. A Muslim man in Parkchester was beaten by teens who allegedly chanted “ISIS” back in January.

Police say that they are not treating the latest incident as a hate crime.
