A taxi drivers group is calling for a law that would make any assault against drivers a felony charge after one cabbie was slashed in

THE BRONX - A taxi drivers group is calling for a law that would make any assault against drivers a felony charge after one cabbie was slashed in the throat by two women going to the Bronx.

The Taxi Drivers of America and the New York Taxi & Limousine Commission are calling for the law. The groups say they want warning signs posted on cabs saying assault is punishable by up to seven years in prison.

The bill is awaiting a hearing in both the Assembly and Senate.
