Teacher at M.S. 206 B, Richard Jenkins, arrested for alleged sexual abuse

THE BRONX - Authorities say 41-year-old Richard Jenkins, a teacher at M.S. 206 B, has been arrested and charged for allegedly sexually abusing a child.

Police say Jenkins has been charged with forcible touching, acting in a manner injurious to a child, sexual abuse and harassment. They also said the victim is a student.

Parents were surprised to hear that the gym and social studies teacher was arrested. One parent said she expects her child to be cared for and safe at school, but she can never know what's out there.

The Department of Education released a statement saying, "when this allegation was made months ago we immediately removed the individual from the classroom. Alleged sexual misconduct has no place in our schools and we always take any allegation very seriously."

Officials did not make clear whether the incident occurred at the school or elsewhere.
