THE BRONX - Tenants fearing higher rents banned together at a meeting to push the city for protection.New York is Our Home organized a meeting to draw attention to a planned May 23 rally in Manhattan. The group expects thousands of Bronx residents and tenants to attend the rally.The coalition is fighting to preserve affordable housing. It wants to change rent regulation laws to protect tenants facing raises in their rent, according to the group. It is demanding a repeal of vacancy decontrol and advocating the stronger enforcement of rent laws. The meeting was presented in both Spanish and English. It featured testimonials and performances to exhibit the plight of the tenants. Council member Helen Foster and state Senator Jose Serrano were among the notables in attendance.
