The Secret to Her Success: Art teacher takes helm at Archie Comics

THE BRONX - A Bronx woman who a little more than a year ago had no business experience is now running her own company.

Nancy Silberkleit, a former grade-school art teacher, took over as co-CEO of Archie Comics when her husband, Michael Silberkleit, died in 2008.

"When I sat in my husband's seat, there was a big speech bubble over my head that said, 'GULP!' " Silberkleit says.

Silberkleit, in an effort to educate herself about the business world, turned to another female CEO, Gert Boyle, who runs Columbia Sportswear. Silberkleit says Boyle taught her the value of listening to her customers.

"I'm becoming a businesswoman," Silberkleit says. "I pinch myself."
