THE BRONX - Thousands of Bronx families living in public housing will get internet access next year, the city announced Friday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio and the secretary of the city's Department of Housing and Urban Development said the move will hand out 5,000 computer tablets to needy Bronx families.

The tablets will go to families that live in public housing with children younger than 19 years old.

It's thanks to a partnership with T-Mobile, similar to one announced a few weeks ago by News 12's parent company, Altice USA, that aims to get New Yorkers linked up at affordable rates.

The program is part of a larger effort to bring high-speed, affordable internet to every New Yorker by 2025.
