THE BRONX - A memorial service for the victims of Sept. 11 and first responders to Ground Zero was held Wednesday near the Engine 72 firehouse in Throgs Neck.
Family members of victims laid roses on the Throgs Neck 9/11 memorial during the special ceremony. There was also a small dining table with several symbols on display, each with their own significance.
"The slice of lemon on the plate reminds us of their bitter fate; the glass is inverted, they cannot toast with us," said a speaker during the ceremony. "The chair is empty, they are not here."
The service was attended by many residents of the community and the NYC Transit Pipes and Drums.
