Residents are advised to stay inside, if possible, to avoid hypothermia and frostbite.

Those heading out to clean off their cars or shovel should dress in layers.

To help stay warm, eat something to keep full and provide energy, like pasta, and avoid drinks containing caffeine and alcohol.
