THE BRONX - News 12 The Bronx is counting down the top stories of the borough of 2013 as voted by our viewers. Coming in at No. 8 is the ongoing saga of Fresh Direct.
Sparks flew at board meetings and hearings over the online grocer moving to the Bronx.
It received a stamp of approval from Mayor Michael Bloomberg in August. The Industrial Development Agency also voted in favor of $127 million in subsidies, paving the way for the online grocer to officially call the Harlem River Yard in Mott Haven its new home.

The plan still faces tough opposition, particularly from South Bronx Unite. The group argues that the move will take away waterfront access, and cause congestion and pollution
The plan is still moving forward, and Fresh Direct will start construction next spring. It should open in the Bronx sometime in 2016.
