Tornado cleanup continues in Bronx

RIVERDALE - The National Weather Service has confirmed thata small tornado hit the Bronx Sunday afternoon during athunderstorm that left thousands without power in the metropolitanarea.

Cleanup crews in Riverdale were out clearing fallen trees and debris from roads. Many residents had damage to their homes or cars.

Meteorologists say the tornado with 100 mile-per-hour windstouched down in the Riverdale section of the Bronx at around 3 p.m.Sunday and lasted for about 10 minutes. The National WeatherService says it's the second tornado to hit the Bronx since 1950.The first was in 1974.
