Traffic violation leads to 300-pound marijuana bust

SOUNDVIEW - Police say what started as a simple traffic violation for not stopping at a stop sign turned into a massive marijuana bust, with officials walking away with 351 pounds of the drug.

Officials say 310 of those pounds came from a house at 1122 Taylor Ave. and led to the arrest of famous reggae artist Denroy Morgan. Police say they originally found only 25 pounds of the substance in the trunk when they pulled the vehicle over. A second vehicle search led to another 16 pounds.

Police say Morgan and another male involved were arrested and charged with failure to stop at a stop sign, not wearing a seat belt and criminal possession of marijuana.

Residents, who say the neighborhood is usually quiet and crime is rare, are glad police caught whoever is responsible.
