VAN NEST - A train station-themed playground will be a part of the new park being built in Van Nest.

Ground has already been broken on the playground, which the Parks Department hopes will be finished within a year. Community Board 11 raised $1.3 million for the project.

The park's train station theme is fitting, as Van Nest was once a transportation hub. The Van Nest railroad station once saw lots of traffic as people traveled to the Morris Park Race Track.
