THE BRONX - A new report shows that an alarming number of Bronx bridges aren't holding up to traffic.

According to Transportation for America, 53 out of the 315 bridges in the borough, or 16.9 percent, are structurally deficient and in dire need of repair.

The City Island Bridge, which sees almost 12,000 cars a day, is among the bridges in poor shape. Others include Shore Road Bridge, Broadway Bridge and the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.

The group states that Congress has declared the condition and safety of the bridges to be of national significance.
