THE BRONX - The New York City public school system debuted ?Trayless Tuesdays,? a new green initiative.

The program aptly began Tuesday. As part of the program, students and faculty are asked to use environmentally friendly paper containers instead of Styrofoam trays during lunch.

Schools Deputy Chancellor Kathleen Grimm estimates the program can save 2.4 million Styrofoam trays from being thrown in landfills.

The program will be expanded to breakfast meals on April 13.
