THE BRONX - A tree caused major damage to a house on Irwin Street in Riverdale Sunday.

Officials say the tree made a hole in the roof and damaged the stairwell wall.

A mother and baby were sleeping in the house at the time of the incident and had to climb through a window to escape.

No one was injured in the home.

The house next door suffered damage to its back side due to the downed tree.

Department of Buildings officials say that both homes need to be vacated.

Officials are investigating the cause of the incident.
