CONCOURSE - A Bronx man was sentenced in court today for abusing pit bulls and training them to fight in his Concourse apartment.

Troy Wilson was sentenced to six months in jail, as well as five years of probation and 300 hours of community service.

Prosecutors say that when police raided Wilson’s apartment, they found three dogs locked up, two of them with clear signs of abuse, neglect and battle wounds.

Wilson also had literature about dogfighting in his home.

Authorities say the dogfights happened at the home of Raul Sanchez at 1254 Sherman Ave., just steps away from the courthouse and Wilson’s home. Sanchez was sentenced to a year in jail last January, also for dogfighting.

Now that both cases have been resolved, animal rights activists are calling for stricter laws against animal abusers.
