THE BRONX - The step-uncle of a slain 15-year-old Bronx girl remains behind bars after appearing in court, but has not been charged in connection with her death.

Luis Vega, 34, charged with endangering the welfare of a child after prosecutors say he gave Destiny Sanchez alcohol not long before she was found smothered and choked to death last week. Authorities say he is a key suspect in the murder investigation.

A judge set bail at just $1 because Vega is already being held on $15,000 for an earlier parole violation. He's due back in court Dec. 6.
