THE BRONX - Some urban chickens are teaching Bronx residents about sustainability and nutrition, all while getting a new home.

The coop for 12 chicks living at Brook Park in Mott Haven got an upgrade over the weekend. Volunteers helped build a storage shed and two tractors that will protect the animals as they move about the community garden.

The coop has been providing the neighborhood with locally laid eggs since a private grant funded the chickens in 2011.
