Use it or lose it: Monthly MetroCards to expire today

BROOKLYN - Straphangers must use up their monthly MetroCards bought in 2010 by today or the cards will expire.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says 30-day unlimited ride MetroCards bought before Dec. 30 will expire at the end of today. The cards needed to be activated by Jan. 10 to get a full month's worth of rides. The agency raised the fare for MetroCards from $89 to $104 in 2011.

For those who cannot use the cards, the MTA will issue a refund. Station agents can provide pre-paid envelopes and refund information.
