Vacca: Fight Con Ed on rate hikes

BRONX - City Council Member James Vacca is asking residents not to take a Con Ed rate hike lying down. The utility plans to increase rates by 13 percent over three years, or $11 per month, for the average household.

The company earned $1.2 billion in net income for 2008, which is a 60 percent increase from the past two years. However, a company spokesman said higher taxes and other factors out of its control forced the hike.

Council Member James Vacca has asked residents to reach out to state legislators through phone calls or e-mail to voice their displeasure about the rate increase.
