RIVERDALE - A proposal to build a 12-story development in Riverdale that would house seniors and the mentally disabled has been put on hold.

For months, some residents have protested against the Van Cortlandt Green development by signing petitions and voicing opposition at numerous community board meetings.

One of the main concerns for opposition, they say, was the safety of seniors who would be living in the same development as the mentally challenged.

The project has been placed on hold because Commulife, which had partnered with project developer Self Help LLC, has pulled out of the project. Officials say that Self Help needs to find another mental health provider in order to get federal funding for the project.

Next Thursday, neighbors are scheduled to meet with the Bronx borough president to discuss the concerns of the community and what should be built on the site.
