Van Nest neighbors demand action over abandoned home

Neighbors in Van Nest say they're fed up with a pileup of trash in front of an abandoned home. Residents say they want the city

THE BRONX - Neighbors in Van Nest say they're fed up with a pileup of trash in front of an abandoned home.

Residents say they want the city to take action and clean up the house located at 1729 Garfield St. They complain that it's become a dumping ground with rats, racoons and squatters roaming through the property.

According to the Department of Health, abandoned properties are not considered health hazards. It says the house was checked just last week and that inspectors found no sign of rats.
