Violent crimes spike in the Bronx

THE BRONX - The NYPD's latest crime statistics are a mixed bag, with overall crime down 1.5 percent, but murders, rapes and robberies on the rise in the Bronx.

With only a few weeks left in 2010, homicides in the Bronx have spiked nearly 22 percent. Authorities say rapes in the Bronx have also risen by 12.5 percent, with 30 more incidents reported so far this year than in 2009.

Robberies have spiked by 12 percent, with more than 4,000 incidents so far this year.
