THE BRONX - Bronx Councilwoman Maria Baez was defeated Tuesday in one of the closest primary races in the city.

Baez, representing the 14th District in the City Council, lost by fewer than 100 votes to challenger Fernando Cabrera.

Some of Baez's opponents say the veteran councilwoman, along with four other members of the City Council, lost her seat for voting last fall to extend term limits that had been twice upheld by voters.
