THE BRONX - Wake services were held tonight for a Bronx man who was robbed and fatally beaten inside his apartment building over the weekend.

Distraught friends and family members gathered at a funeral home in Parkchester to pay their respects.

Police say Bimal Chandra, 59, was attacked as he walked up the stairs to his third-floor apartment.

Investigators say they believe two men attacked him from behind, with one man holding him down and another hitting him repeatedly over the head with a metal object. The suspects made off with cash and some of his property, police say.

Chandra died in the hospital yesterday.

Officials are asking anyone with information to call 1-800-577-8477.
