THE BRONX - The South Bronx community is saying goodbye to one of the men who worked to keep kids off the streets and out of gangs.

Temple Jehovah Shammah held a wake for senior Pastor Jose Carlos Ortiz, who passed away last week.

The local leader is being remembered for his community activism, which included inviting the Latin Kings gang to church to make peace with other gang members, among other initiatives.

Churchgoers say they won't forget his passion for helping everyone.
