THE BRONX - A Wakefield community is on the road to a slow recovery after a devastating fire took out an entire block back in May.

Several businesses and a mosque were completely destroyed by the five-alarm blaze on White Plains Road and East 226th Street.

Most of the block remains boarded up. Many shop owners are still trying to find new space to rent as they rebuild their livelihoods from scratch.

Leaders from Al Huda Mosque say they’re planning to rebuild in the same spot as their first house of worship. They are currently working with their insurance company and trying to obtain the necessary permits to start construction.
