THE BRONX - A water main break early Wednesday morning left some Crotona Park residents without running water.

The break opened at the corner of Jennings Street and Louis Nine Boulevard just after 1 a.m., according to officials.

Neighbors say they heard a loud noise before the rush of water destroyed the surrounding sidewalk.

The Department of Environmental Protection had to shut off water service to several homes in the area.

Officials had closed some nearby roads, but they have since reopened. Repair work is ongoing.
