Water main breaks on Hoe Avenue and Freeman Street in Foxhurst
THE BRONX - A water main broke just before 4 p.m. Friday, flooding a Bronx street and leaving about 20 families without water.
It happened in Foxhurst at the corner of Hoe Avenue and Freeman Street.
The pipe, originally installed in 1961, froze and cracked, destroying the asphalt and splitting the street in half. Water sprang up from the ground, covering the street in a sheet of ice.

Crews from the Department of Environmental Protection were on the scene drilling and working to get the pipe fixed.
Trucks have been out spreading salt on the roads due to concerns about ice.
The DEP says the broken pipe has been fixed and water services have been restored to the affected families.
