THE BRONX - Organizations throughout New York City are encouraging residents to visit a park and cool down today in observation of City of Water Day.

Today's celebrations are being held to show appreciation for the city's many waterways, including Van Cortlandt Lake in Van Cortlandt Park.

As part of the day's festivities, the Bronx River Alliance held a canoe ride and led people in a hike around the lake. Children also got a chance to do arts and crafts with seashells.

A big City of Water Day celebration is being held at Governor's Island, but organizers are encouraging residents to visit their own local parks as well.
