NORWOOD - Drivers traveling down Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood will soon be pumping the brakes as the street is now a designated ‘slow zone’.
Starting next year, there will be a 20 mph speed limit, speed bumps, signage and a number of other markings as part of a citywide effort to improve traffic safety.
Bainbridge Avenue is one of several other roadways the city has now grouped as slow zones --15 neighborhoods citywide will take part in the expansion. In the Bronx, Parkchester and Westchester Square made the cut. However, the two neighborhoods will not see any slow zone treatment until 2015 and 2016.
According to the DOT, the areas were picked based on crash history, community support, as well as proximity of schools, day care and senior centers.
