THE BRONX - The oldest senior center in the country kicked off its celebrations of Black History Month on Friday. 

The event at William Hodson Senior Center was sponsored by Bronx state Sen. Gustavo Rivera. 

"It's good to remember our diversity, all the different things that make us who we are, and that's one of the reasons why we're here today," said Sen. Rivera. 

The month-long celebration includes music and poetry. 

This is the second year that Sen. Rivera has held a Black History Month celebration in the Bronx.
