THE BRONX - An investigation is underway after a fire broke out in an apartment building on Nelson Avenue.

Officials say the fire started at around 9:30 a.m. today on the second floor of a six-story building. They say a woman was in the apartment when the blaze broke out.

She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, and four firefighters were also taken to a hospital for minor injuries.

Fire crews were able to control the flames before they reached other apartments.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
