THE BRONX - Police say a Bronx woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her uncle, for whom she was supposed to be caring.
Police say 42-year-old James Thompson was found inside his Bronx Park South apartment on June 8, 2012. They say he was unresponsive on the floor and weighed only 70 pounds.
Doctors went to the apartment to check out the conditions after Thompson collapsed. Investigators say the doctors found that he lived in squalid conditions, with dog feces in the bathroom sink, a clogged kitchen sink and a nearly empty refrigerator.

Thompson's niece, 23-year-old Naisa Norman, was arraigned Wednesday on manslaughter and other charges. The district attorney says Thompson was autistic and could not take care of himself. After Thompson's mother fell ill in 2010, Norman, a licensed home health care attendant, assumed the role of his caretaker.
Investigators say Norman was supposed to spend her uncle's $700 Social Security checks on his care. The district attorney says she only spent about one-tenth of the money on Thompson's food or medical care in the year before he died.
Norman is being held on $75,000 bail. She is due back in court Sept. 15.
