Woman struck and killed by city bus

THE BRONX - A Bronx woman was killed Wednesday morning after she was struck by a city bus near East Tremont and Crotona avenues.

The family of Megan Powers was stunned and visibly upset when they saw their loved one and her bike pinned underneath the MTA bus.

According to police, the victim was riding her bicycle at the time of the incident. The occupant of a parked car was opening the door and police say Powers attempted to veer around the vehicle. The bus was unable to stop.

Police questioned the man that opened his car door on Powers and gave him a Breathalyzer test. The occupant of the car passed the test and has been issued a summons.
