Word on the Street: Dentist visits

The American Dental Association says it is important

The American Dental Association says it is important for individuals to go at least once a year.

THE BRONX - A recent Gallup poll found that only one out of three adults has visited the dentist in the past year.

The American Dental Association says it is important for individuals to go at least once a year.

The study also found that blacks and Hispanics 18 to 29 are least likely to swing by their dentist's office. News 12 asked residents why they choose to go to or abstain from the dentist.

Some said they don't go because they don't have insurance, while others said they take good enough care of their teeth on their own. Several stressed the importance of going to the dentist's office annually.

According to the poll, income is also a factor. More than 50 percent of households around the country making $12,000 a year say they were not willing to incur that expense.
