The city’s Department of Education has administered a new physical exam to assess students’ fitness performance.

THE BRONX - The city’s Department of Education has administered a new physical exam to assess students’ fitness performance.

The NYC Fitnessgram gives students grades 4-12 their individual body mass index in addition to stating whether the child falls into the overweight, obese, healthy or underweight category according to the Center for Disease Control. 

News 12 hit the streets to find out what Bronx residents think of these new assessments.

Most residents say the assessment could cause more harm than good, potentially leading to low self-esteem if students compare their results with others.
