THE BRONX - Mayor Michael Bloomberg is touting the success of the city's outer borough taxi program.
There are now more than 1,000 bright apple green cars, known as Boro Taxis, traveling around the city since they were first rolled out in early August.
The mayor says the cabs have dramatically increased the number of legal street hails available to residents living outside of Manhattan, making more than 280,000 trips and covering more than 885,000 miles as of Nov. 8.

Boro Taxis have meters, roof lights and credit card machines, just like their yellow counterparts, but they can't pick up passengers within the central Manhattan business district.
Some Bronx residents told News 12 that they prefer the green cars to illegal livery cabs, but others say they'd rather take a ride without the meter.
