THE BRONX - The NYPD is sharing tips to keep smartphone users safe.

The department released reports indicating that Apple products are hot items for thieves.

Officials say to be aware of your surroundings. Also, do not bring attention to your smartphone.

When you're not using your phone, make sure to lock it. You can also add applications to your phone to help track it in case it is stolen.

If you want to play it safe or are prone to losing things, you may want to consider insuring your device with your wireless provider.
