Yankees to honor 'The Boss' with monument

THE BRONX - A monument of George Steinbrenner will be unveiled during a special tribute to "The Boss" at Yankee Stadium Sept. 20.

The unveiling ceremony will take place before the Yankees' game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Steinbrenner will be the first person not to wear a uniform to receive this honor. His monument will be the sixth in Monument Park, joining such Yankee legends as Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle.

"We know we will always share George's memory with Yankees fans everywhere, and a monument in his honor to be located in Monument Park will reflect the special connection, appreciation and responsibility that George felt for New York Yankees' fans everywhere as they were always uppermost in his mind," the Yankees said in a statement.
