THE BRONX - Owners of yellow cabs have filed papers with the Taxi and Limousine Commission asking to increase rates.Under the proposal, the pickup fare would go up 50 cents, from $2.50 to $3. The meter fare would also increase from 40 cents per fifth of a mile to 40 cents per sixth of a mile.Yellow cab owners also want the flat rate from John F. Kennedy International Airport raised from $47 to $53. Waiting and other surcharges would remain the same.If approved, the rate increases will not go into effect until at least next year.
